There is a wealth of information on this subject, including genealogical trees of some local Italian families.
Check: Caxias do Sul, Colonia de Alfredo Chaves, and others. You will find rolls with names, etc.
Also check: Brasil. Governo. Colonizacao and Imigracao Italiana no Rio Grande do Sul.
Italians preferred land in higher altitudes for the cultivation of vineyards, they directly improved the quality of the region wines, bringing cuts of Italian vines to the region.
This is not my area of research, just side interest!
