Loporchio - Cioglia and Longo - LaMacchia

Postby debiscott » 21 Jul 2008, 19:28

I am trying to get information on my Great-Grandfather Vincenzo Loporchio. He was born in 1860 and was a Carriage driver, married to Maria Domenica Ciogia. He came to the USA in 1920. Any information on either of them would be greatly appreciated. Vincenzo was from Foggia, not sure about Maria.

I am also looking for information on my other GGrandfather, Guiseppe Longo. Born in 1873. Married to Teresa LaMacchia (born in 1884). Children included Antonetta (my grandmother) Ella, Inconetta, Ruggerio, Guiseppe, Angelina, Stella, Ida, Albert and Madeline. Teresa can to the US in 1911.

Ciao Debiscott,

just a clue....

I found that Vincenzo in 1930 census was living in Providence rI with his son Antonio Loporchio (and daughter in law Antonietta)...
I searched the arrival manifest for Antonio (1913) and found this:

Atlantic Ports Passenger Lists, 1820-1873 and 1893-1959
about Antonio Loporchio
Name: Antonio Loporchio
Arrival Date: 1 Aug 1913
Age: 22 years
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1891
Gender: Male
Ethnic Background: Italian (South) (Italian)
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ship Name: Venezia
Port of Arrival: Providence, Rhode Island
Friend's Name: Michele Benedetto
Last Residence: Italy
Birthplace: Ascoli Satr, Italy
Microfilm Roll Number: 5

at that time he was leaving in Italy (Ascoli Satriano) his father Vincenzo..
I noticed that he was travelling with a Family named Cecchia...
Cecchia Vincenzo from Ascoli Satriano (wife Anna Andreana, child Giuseppe and Pasquale) were going at the same Address Antonio was going too...
So I thought that possible they were relatives and his mother's surname could have been Cecchia...
I found no Cecchia Surname in the Apulia Region but sure does exist Checchia....
Could it be the correct spelling of Vincenzo's wife?
Laura :D

The record posted by MJones for Vincenzo looks to be correct - Can you get a print like you did on the others of that one? It should be the Canada with one son (Francesco) and 2 daughters (Guiseppa and Immocalata).

The other one for Antonio makes me want to cry with joy! That is my grandfather - we have not been able to find his manafest (the joke of the family is that he was a stow away).
The Michele Benedetto was his brother in law- was he on the boat or was that who he was going to stay with?
I have Michele Benedetto arriving with his wife Filomena on the "America" departing Naples July 17, 1912 arriving Ellis Island July 29,1912.
So he would have already been here - of course he could have gone back and gotten my grandfather.....

Where can I get the census records?

The Family History Center has the records for Ascoli Santriano and Stornara.

Maria Domenica's last name might be Ciaglia.
