Great grandparents commune(s) of birth and marriage?

Postby 3rd3rd » 27 Jul 2008, 16:39

Hello!

I have begun the process of trying to find and accumulate all the information for application for dual citizenship via my maternal GGF.

I've found that he, Angelo Sodini, was born Apr. 15, 1864, came to the US (Chicago) in 1892. He married Eugenia Bianchi (marriage date unknown), born Feb. 8, 1869. She followed him to the US with first son/great-uncle Gilbert, (born 1891, so marriage date prior...) in 1897.

1910 Census records show the entire family in Chicago, including GGM's parents.

What I don't know is exactly where they were born and married. Family rumor has it as Lucca, but no one is sure.

Any suggestions that anyone can provide as to how best to find the actual places of birth and marriage would be gratefully appreciated!

Other family related : Jacobucci or Jacopucci (from Central Italy).

Thank you Vincenzo! Yes, I was able to find that record, so San Gennaro is a good possibility. The Ellis Island listing for my GGM/GU has them as "Eugenia & Gilbert Bianchi", Last Place of Residence: Capannia(sp?), so that is another possibility?

It might be that I am not understanding correctly. Do I need to write to each town to try to find birth and marriage records? Or is there a central place I can write to, that would cover San Gennaro, Lucca, Capannia, etc.?

Thank you again!

Hi John,
i think San Gennaro is San Gennaro Vesuviano (Province of Napoli - Campania).I don't know another town with that name: i'm searching but it is the only one. Maybe a little village don't exist anymore but i don't believe....

you need to write to each town to have certificate: Lucca is in Toscana and San Gennaro vesuviano is in Campania, two different County.

I hope this help you.

Thanks much Vincenzo, that helps a lot! I'm still digging through family records, and I've found that my GGF's nephew is listed as being born in San Gennaro, so this seems like the best place to begin!

And... poking around a little more, it looks like there is a San Gennaro in the Lucca Province!

For reference:

1897 manifest for Eugenia and Gilbert lines 27 and 28
Last residence could be Capannori, a town in the province of Lucca; San Gennaro is a hamlet/township in the town of Capannori.

Thank you much suanj and Biff83, that tells me where to start! Please pardon my ignorance, but should I write to the hamlet of San Gennaro, the town of Capannori, or both for possible birth/marriage records?

you must write in Capannori, saying that your ancestor was born in "frazione di San Gennaro"

to:
info @ comune.capannori.lu.it ( No Spaces)
or to major:

sindaco @ comune.capannori.lu.it ( No spaces)

or
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Via Piaggia Carlo, 1
55012 Capannori (LU)
Italy

Thank you much suanj! That form letters page is great! Are email requests considered OK, or would regular mail be best?

Best regards,

When mailing the Stato Civile, is it OK to "bundle" requests? That is, I would like to request my GGF's Birth and Marriage certificate, as well as my GGM's Birth certificate (I believe they were both born in San Gennaro).

Would it be OK to send both requests in one envelope? Or, if someone could show me how to combine all the requests into one letter, I would be extremely grateful!

Thank you in advance!
