Finding civil records in Italy

My great-grandparents immigrated to the USA around 1900-1910. I think I figured out where in Italy they came from but I don't speak/read/write Italian. Are there resources written in English about obtaining Italian civil records?

If you know the exact town of origin, the Lds may have microfilmed records from which you can research your family:
