Great hearing from you! Do you have any old photos of the neighborhood from back when your relatives were living there? My family owned the Farmacia del Vesuvio at 2222 1st Avenue from about 1900 - 1940/50. That was at the corner of E 114th and 1st. Thanks for posting!

Hi!

Unfortunately, I don't have photos of the neighborhood - would love to see some myself. I do have photos of family members, but I don't know everyone in them.

Nice hearing from you!!

My father's parents lived in this area when they came to America also. They lived at 232 E109th street and 223 E 107th street. I was trying to find them on the NYC census of 1915 and 1925 and the Federal Census of 1920. I live in NY so it was easy for me to go the NY Public Library and go through the microfilms. But first i had to go to the Map Room and get a map of that area in 1915 and 1925-well, those streets don't exist anymore. It is a housing project. I did not find my grandparents on any of the census. But, there were so many Italians.

Hi,

I came across your bulletin post about your family history in East Harlem. I also have roots in East Harlem, that go back to 1901. I have a wordpress blog called italianharlem.
The link is http://www.italianharlem.com
Also, during the course of my research, I found a photo of your family's pharmacy on First Ave. Here's the link from the Library of Congress. I'm not sure if you know about this photo, but here it is:

Hope to hear from you!

Hello! I thought you all would enjoy this link, which is a petition signed by local business owners in the neighborhood complaining about the pushcart vendors: https://books.google.com/books?id=BCZNA ... 22&f=false

Felitti should be highlighted on that link, on page 41. The undertaker Antonio Cancro also signed this petition (although elsewhere I have seen his address listed as 2227, not 2209 First Avenue -- maybe he moved).

My relatives apparently lived in this area at the same time, so I am also on the hunt for old neighborhood photos.
