Do I qualify for citizenship?

Postby julieann » 19 Sep 2008, 09:52

Could someone help me work out if I qualify for citizenship?
I've read various sites and I'm rather confused!

Both paternal and maternal great great grandparents were born and died in Italy. B. approx. 1828.

My great grandfather and great grandmother were born in Italy 1859 and 1865 and were married in 1885. They came to Australia in 1890.

My great grandfather was naturalised in 1897.

My grandmother was born in Australia in 1893.

I would appreciate any help/explanations.

Many thanks.

Julieann

Because we are talking about dates before 1948, you can only get citizenship through a paternal line. So your father's father's father came from Italy and was naturalized in 1897? When was your grandfather born? as long as it was before 1897 then yes you are eligable for citizenship. If after then no you are not. Your great grandfather gave up his Italian citizenship and that of everyone born after the naturalization date.
