Casino & Cassino & Castelsilano???

Postby beebers » 28 Sep 2008, 11:44

Just a little confused about the town names. Manifests show Casino, Italy as birthplace for several ancestors I'm researching -- arrival in NY 1912 and 1920. I've noticed in other forums that Casino may have been renamed to Castelsilano? And Cassino appears to be a different city altogether? If this is correct, I'll probably change some notations to Castelsilano instead of Casino, but wanted to check before doing this. Thanks!

Casino became "Comune" in 1811, it was part of the province of Cosenza. In 1916 it was assigned to the province if Catanzaro. In 1950 its name was changed to Castelsilano. Currently Castelsilano is in the province of Crotone (this Province was established in 1992).

Cassino is a completely different town in the province of Frosinone.
