Deportation Information

Postby jjulian14712 » 17 Oct 2008, 14:40

I am now fairly sure that I have found my grandfather on a ship's manifest, and linked it successfully to his birth certificate in Italy. However, next to his name on the manifest--Francesco Guiliano--it is stamped "DEPORTED." Does that mean that he himself was deported, or does it refer to the names above him that are crossed out? If it is my grandfather, is there any indication as to the reason? I'll try to leave the link.

Thank you for your help,

Jeff Julian

Jeff,
It appears he was deported, from the same manifest:
1909 special inquiry page

This may help
manifest markings

Valarie,

You've given us fascinating information that we definitely didn't have before.

Thank you,
