Di Stefano- Rocchetta San Antonio

Postby Kathy-o » 25 Oct 2008, 20:52

I am trying to find information on my grandfather Angelo (Angelantonio) Di Stefano's family. He left Rocchetta S.A. and immigrated to the US in 1909. He said he came from a large family of possibly 17 or 18 children, however we do not know any of their names or if that is correct. His parents names on his birth certificate are listed as Alfonso Di Stefano and Carolina Barbetta. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Welcome to IG!
Have you collected all US records? Sent for any documentation in the town of origin?

(Hi wldspirit!)

Welcome to the forum!

Are you familiar with the Family History Center (LDS)?

They have microfilms that you can order and review at the center (in Italian)
If all of your family was from Rocchetta, you’ll find almost no end to the information
you can find in Italian records!

Have you checked manifest to see if any of the siblings came over, listing your ancestor as destination?

You can perform a surname and town only search using the following site:

http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellisgold.html

I was able to locate a relative this way that no one in the family knew of,
he didn't stay, but went back and forth a few times.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I have collected all the US records and also have copies of my grandparents' birth certificates and marriage certificate. I have not yet explored the LDS films yet but do have the record numbers that I need to look at. The LDS is going to be my next area of research. I was hoping to make contact with someone in Rocchetta S.A. or even hear from another family member here in the US if there are any. I do know there are a number of Di Stefanos listed in the Rocchetta S.A. telephone listings. I was considering sending letters to the people listed to see if maybe any of them may be related. Has anyone pursued that avenue and received responses?

Checked the manifest too. Not only was there no other sibling or relative with him, there was not another passenger from Rocchetta S.A. on the ship!

There are also a number of Di Stefanos listed. Have you looked at all these records?

If any siblings did come to the US, even for a short time, they may not have traveled with him, or even within the same year. By going thru the manifest one at a time, reading the destination and relative/friend that they are joining, you may discover additional family members.
If you have performed US research, then you have an idea of where they were living in a given time frame, giving you the ability to match up addresses.

Many members have sent out potential relative letters and succesfully made connections with current family in Italy. I know of one member who sent out 90 plus letters!!!

You can use a standard form at the following link:

Letter
