Italian Handwriting

Postby PeteT » 17 Nov 2008, 19:29

I have a relative's Italian service record (Foglio matricolare e caratteristico) from the 1940s, 1950s. I can translate the language OK. The problem for me is the handwriting. I can't decipher it. I can't tell the difference between an 'm', an 'n' or a 'u'. Are there any tools for this?

As far as I know there are no tools available, it is a matter of practice and deep knowledge of the language.

If you post the document here we can try to decipher it for you.

My family is from Grotteria - I would like to send a letter to confirm geneology, however, I was told the Italian language there is a little different than what is taught here in the USA. I was told the dialect is of ancient greece. do you know of this? can you help me write a letter to find my relatives in Grotteria?
thanks

You attached your post to another one which has nothing to share with yours.
What I'm trying to understand is:
do you want someone to translate a letter in ANCIENT GREEK ????
8O
Then you must have a funny idea of what we speak in Italy.
If I misunderstood, then post a new topic with your letter and someone will translate it in ITALIAN

I already sent you the website for a letter to your relatives but I will repeat it here. First write WWW and then write angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwisdom/Davids_form_letters.html

I am sorry you have to write this way but sometime the forum cannot give you the automatic transfer to the letter. =Peter=
