Condofuri Records

Postby Tminikel » 24 Nov 2008, 18:17

Hi. Can anyone help me locate records for my great grandparents and other relatives? This is the info I have:

Dominico Cartisano
DOB: about 1870
Born in Condofuri, Italy
Married Giusseppa (don't know last name)
Children: Francis, Antoinette, Jaco, Domenica
Brothers: Anthony and Nathan
Father's name might have been Francis. Last name would be different, Domenico changed his name to Cartisano (mother's maiden) after the death of his birth father.

Does anyone know where I can obtain marriage, birth, communion, etc records?

Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum!
We’ll be happy to see what we can do to help.
Since you’ll need Domenico’s birth date for your Italian record research,
do you have his US records?
Thanks! Valarie

If you wish to trace your family back to 1809 all th e way to 1900 then go to your nearest Mormon church family history library and rent out the microfilm records of birth, marriages and deaths for Condofuri (RC) Calabria for about $5.00. Go to www.familysearch.org for the library nearest your home.. =Peter=

Yes. That's my family from the 1930 census! That's great! I do not have Domenico's date of birth. According to my grandmother's birth certificate, he was born in 1870. Do I need the exact date in order to obtain the italian records?

Thank you so much! That's amazing! I certainly have a lot more to work with now than I did this morning!

So when I obtain Domenico's DOB, where do I go to get his and his family's birth records and such?

Again, thank you SOOOOO Much!

I'm so glad we could help!
As Peter suggested, you’ll need to go to your nearest Family History Center to order microfilm for your town(s).
You’ll be viewing them at the Center when they come in.

Do I need the exact date in order to
obtain the italian records

Not only the birthdate, but the names of parents as well. Given Italian naming tradition, it is not unusual to find more than one person with the exact same name in the town of origin.

The microfilm is an excellent resource, no waiting for a reply from Italy,
which may or may not come.... :?
