Marchesan?

Postby chiola616 » 28 Nov 2008, 12:56

I have a friend that has no clue where her family is from. All she knows is that the town is supposed to be Marchesan! After some googling I have found that there is a section of the apennines called the Umbria-Marchesan area. Is that a reasonable guess that there is no specific town, but a region of mountain range?

We can possibly pinpoint the exact town of origin with more information.
What is the full name of the immigrant ancestor? Spouses name? Known children and birthdates for all, or even an approximate guess. In which US state did they reside?

Hi and welcome to the forum,

The Regions of Italy are the first-level administrative divisions of the state. There are twenty regions (Marche and Umbria are two of this), five of which are autonomous regions with special statutes.

best regards
I'm searching lost relatives and descendant of my greatgrandfather Vincenzo Genualdi (or Gennaldi or Genuardi) and my greatgrandmother Concetta Davola (their sons: Angela, Carmela, Antonio, Bartolomeo, Ernesto, Simone, Riccardo, Maria) went in Chicago,Ill., and New Orleans, in 1880-1920 from Sicily. Other family related : Jacobucci or Jacopucci (from Central Italy).

The surname is Pagliarini, and the first name is Jovachino or Yovachino (from Marchesan)

I believe you are right Suanj......my Nonni would say we are
Marchesan (spelling?) or Marchesani...

But that refers to a big area...we need more specific info from the poster
to find precise info.

Hi chiola616

Does your friend have any addtional information...perhaps she doens't have a town, but maybe a province? even geographic info might help a little....did they live near water? in the mountains? were they farmers? fisherman? Even small insignificant details may help give a peice of the puzzle.

If your friend’s family has connections to Millville, NJ
Here are some records for a Pagliarini family from Millville & Philadelphia
(sources GenealogyBank, ancestry. com, & Ellis Island)
It appears that this family was from Ascoli Piceno, town or province in Marche Region
(as everyone has suggested :D )
Perhaps this family is related to your friend's family?
