Mitary Record Search

Postby rdel4577 » 28 Nov 2008, 23:40

My wife's brother was a Lieutenant in the Alpini in the Second World War. He was sent to Russia and was never heard from again. How would I find his military record? His name was Marco Redolfi Dezan. He was from Aviano, Pordenone which I guess was Province of Udine at that time.

There are two distinct possiblities. One is personnel files for former Italian POW ( I doubt that the Communist Government would have sent Italy a listing of Italian POW's held in Russia but they may have been listed as killed or missing inaction so I would request personnel files from the Ministero di Difesa Italiana, Commissariato Generale, Onoranze Caduti inGuerra, P. Le. Luigi Sturzo 23, 00144, Roma, Italy (telephonenumber 06-5913632). The other killed in action adress is Ministero della Difesa-Onorcaduti, Palazzo Esercito, Via XX Settembre/23A, 00187, Roma.

If you feel that the Italian Volunteers for the Russian campaign were considered by the Italian Government to be POWs then you can also write to Ten. Col. Fasullo, Ministero della Difesa, Via Mattia Battistini 113, 7 Piano, 00167, Roma, Italy

Further youmay also wish to write to the Military records office in Archivio di Stato in Pordenone for his Registro di Leva when he was first conscripted for military service. =Peter=

Thank you very much. Would his records be in Pordenone or in Udine? Pordenone did not become a Province until 1968 or 69. I guess I can try both.
