'Lanteri, Sortino SR'

Postby frederic06 » 27 Dec 2008, 17:26

Buon giorno,

when entering my name Lanteri in googleearth, it returns a location 'Lanteri, Sortino SR'

I know there are many Lanteri families in Siracusa aera.

I would like to know when this surname appeared in the region. Probably some centuries ago but does anyone know more about that ? If they were immigrants in Sicily where did they come from and which event could explain they came there ?

If anyone has information... Grazie mille !

Frederic

The earliest record for Lanteri is inthe 1600's in the French Maritime Alps. Since it is not listed as an italian surname it is most likely a foreign surname imported into Italy from that part of the world. It first showed up in Avola Siracusa in 1850's via Torino and Licata Sicily or so it would seem.=Peter=

Thanks a lot and sorry for having posted my question twice in two different sections
This is highly interesting for me to learn when the Lanteri arrived in Sicily. On the french/italian Riviera this surname exists since the 13th century as far as I know. It was the main surname in the village of La Brigue (in France since 1947) + a few others smaller villages around one in France and the others on the other side of the border.

Thanks again !

Frederic
