LoBello, Fragale, Geraci Sciara, Sicily

Postby AnnetteLB » 21 Jan 2009, 18:48

I recently joined and could use some advice, as my problem is I believe a bit unique. My grandfather, Luigi LoBello, born 1888, married Antonina Rini , born 1889, in Sciara in 1910. After my father, Francesco was born in 1911, they came to America through Ellis Island. From that point on - I am doing great. How do I get 1700 and 1800 information?
However, my grandparents were first cousins. They received dispensation in 1910 to marry. Luigi's mother was Giuseppina Fragale, and Antonina's mother was her sister, Vincenzia Fragale. I am looking for the earlier generations with the names Rini, LoBello and Fragale.

Knowing the way my grandfather named his children, I believe I have some first names of the Fragale's correct, but cannot come up with the great grand parents and further back. Luigi LoBello children were: Francesco, my father, then Giuseppina, Vincenzia, Gaetano and Pietro.

Antonina had 3 sisters and one brother but I only know the name of one sister, Caterina, who married a Geraci. Her brother was Paulo Rini.

Luigi only had one younger brother, Pietro who died at 14. Luigi's mother, died when he was 12. Antonina Rini could also be Reinii, as it is believed to be from the French from the 1600's, as is LoBello.

Hi Annette and welcome to the forum.

For Sciara, Palermo Sicily there are microfilms you can order from the LDS church covering the years 1821 through 1910 for births, deaths, publication of marriage banns and marriages. I'm providing you with the list of films
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... o+civile++

They also have census records that cover 1711 through 1811
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... +%28Pale++

You will need to find a Family History Center (FHC) to order the films and to view them. The cost is approximately $5.50 USD and take about 4 weeks to receive. Here is the link to locate a center
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... et_fhc.asp

You should be able to find alot of information about your family. I would start with the film that covers the birth years of your grandfather and grandmother (1888 and 1889). The birth acts will list the names and the ages of each parent. You should be able to figure out from their approximate year of marriages. Find their marriage records which will list their parents full names etc. etc. etc.

Hope this helps and if you need any help just post back on the forum.

Hi Elizabeth!
Great advice - lucky that the marriage was in 1910.
Pretty neat that they have the census too.

Hi Val

I was referring to the marriages of Luigi and Antonina's parents. The poster wants to work backwards toward the 1700's, the birth acts of these two people (1888 and 1889) will have the parents ages so she should be able to take a stab at when each set of parents got married (based on their ages at the time of the births) and then order that film which will list each of their parents etc.

Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

Yes, the census info is interesting. It lists entire families and who was living with who.

Hope this clears up any confusion.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth,
I see what you mean now, Annette already has her grandparents' information.
Thanks! Valarie
