I am looking for a town In italy where most of the population has the last name of Turi where my family is from. Logically it would be Turi, but I am almost positive my grandfather always told me it was something with an 'A' if anyone can help I would really appreciate it!

Here you go
Pretty neat interactive site
http://www.gens.labo.net/it/cognomi/

Just type in your name at ‘Cognome’
Hit the arrow
Float your cursor over the areas with the most x’s

After you decide on a promising region, try this site
http://italia.indettaglio.it/eng/cognomi/cognomi.html

Another way to check, try plugging your name into
Ellis Island
