When was my grandfather naturalized?

Postby kappra » 04 Mar 2009, 07:01

Hello,
I am trying to find out if my grandfather was naturalized before my father was born. Turns out if he was still an Italian citizen at the time of my father's birth, I can apply for dual citizenship (maybe).

All I know about him is his name was Aurito Capodicasa, and he first came to the US at the age of 15 through Ellis Island. We used to have his naturalization papers but my mom gave them to my uncle :(

Is there any way I can access this information online? Also, how might I be able to trace back and find my grandfather's family in Italy? He was from Chieti, Abbruzzo.

Grazie!

He lived in Paulsboro, New Jersey, but I believe he was naturalized in Woodbury, NJ.

I would suggest you vist the National Archives web site here and click the "Immigration & Naturalization Records" link, then fill out the online order form to request a record search. Usually takes only a few weeks to get a response and the cost is minimal.

You would want to send for actual documentation, but according to this WW1 draft registration card, he is a NATURALIZED citizen, living in Paulsboro NJ.
