Hi,
I am new to the site, and am beginning research on my family.
I am having trouble locating information on my Great Grandfather.
His name is Antonio Raccuia. I believe his birthday is 5 dec 1885. He was born in or near Montalbano Elicona, Messina. Possibly in the Villages of Santa Maria or Patti (?). He came to the US in 1900, to Buffalo, NY.
In New York, I am told he was staying with a man named John, who later returned to Italy.
Antonio went to San Jose, California, USA in 1919. He then met and married Carmela Mary Glaviano (25 yrs.) at age 35. They lived in San Jose, CA. He had 2 step daughters (Annie and Jennie Daugento) and 2 sons (Bertolo (?) and Nicola (?) Rock).
He passed away 10 April 1944.
If anyone is researching this same person/family, I would love to hear from you.
Thanks,
Marilyn

Hi Marilyn,
I believe that Antonio Raccuia was in San Jose before of the year 1919.
I think this is his military enlistment for the First World War:
Lastname is mispelled in the list on the site of Ancestry.com but it's clearly Raccuia on the document image....

Re: Antonio Raccuia from Montalbano Elicona, Messina ?
Thanks for the information!
I have to look into the Antonino record. However the Bartolom Raccua and Nicolo Racculia (spellings are not correct) are for sure relatives. Nicolo is my Grandfather, and Bartolomeo is my Great Uncle.
I know/knew both of them, but have not had any luck getting their records. The only thing I have been able to find is a 1930 census. Their names are only listed as Nick and Bert. These are the names I know them by.
I was looking for their birth records but had not found anything. I had different spellings. Where did you find the records?
Thanks again!!

Re: Antonio Raccuia from Montalbano Elicona, Messina ?
I found the records Laura sent!
I think I am to the point where I need to look into Italian records. But I am not even sure where to begin.
I have family in 2 places. The Raccuia's in Montalbano Elicona, Messina and Sulla/Glaviano's which I believe were from Plazzo Adrianno (?), Palermo.
Do you know how I start to request information?
Thanks,
Marilyn
