Internment Camps in Bari WW2

Postby Leanne82 » 27 Mar 2009, 04:30

Hi There,

My grandfather and his family were forced out of Trieste during WW2 and sent to an Internment camp in Bari. I believe this is called Alberobello. Does anyone know where I can find records of the names of people who were there and why?

Thankyou!!!

Dear Laura very interesting. I never knew about this camp in Alberobello despite my being inthat very area on several occasions. Glad to know about it. Thank you. =Peter=

Thanks for the information. My father and his family were also forced from Trieste during WWII to an internment camp in southern Italy for refusing to 'Italianize' from being Slovenians. Were there any other camps that you are aware of? I believe they said it was in/around Naples, or is this most likely the same one?

Unfortunately this site is in italian... in the last paragraph you can find the list of the 40 internment camps in Italy:
http://www.mondimedievali.net/Microstor ... amento.htm

In the Apulia region there were four:
Alberobello, Gioa del Colle, Manfredonia and the Tremiti Islands..
