Looking for ancestors from Monreale

Postby peterval1979 » 01 Apr 2009, 02:44

Hello. I'm looking for information on the Squatrito's of Monreale. My great grandfather was Antonino Squatrito. He was married to Rosalia Vermiglia and they had three daughters in Monreale, Pietra, Giovanna, and Saveria. Rosalia left Sicily with her three daughters around 1906 and came to the U.S. and eventually settled in New Orleans. Antonino left either before or after. He is in the 1910 Census in New Orleans.

Rosalia left Italy with her three daughters on 1909:

Squatrito seems a rare lastname, at least in Monreale... from this site you can see that at present there are only 15 persons with Squatrito lastname...

try also this one to see the distribution of the Squatrito's today in Italy:

Hope this helps!

If you wish to obtain birth.marriage or death records inMonreale then go to www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwisdom/it ... tters.html for form letters in Italian language which you send to the address under municipio. Go to www.nonsolocap.it and put in Monreale, click CERCA and when it comes up click on Monreale and scroll down to municipio for address to mail. The service is free.

You may also wish to seek out the microfilm records for Monreale and trace back to 1820 at your nearest Mormon church familyhistory library (WWW.FAMILYSEARCH.ORG) costs about $5.50 to rent. There is a companion book Discovering Your Italian Ancestors by Lynn Nelson for the microfilm. Bring along a magnifying glass since the records are handwritten. =peter=
