It's a very serious event, it's 8.30 a.m. now and the tv news are talking of about 30 victims....
The epicentre is in the village of Arischia in the abruzzo region...
I'm praying too....
I live far from the area so I didn't noticed the tremors but it was very strong....

Thank you Essgee.....

URGENT: Earthquake in Abruzzo!

Postby elba » 06 Apr 2009, 07:44

I'll make no apologies for posting this here. It is a copy of what I posted this morning on another site and contains links that will help you get up to date information from the disaster area and a link to FREE 'on line' tv programmes from Italy.

There was an earthquake in the Aquila area of Abruzzo last night. It was pretty bad. A state of emergency has been declared and so far the death toll is 27.

I will try and keep you updated with news, but here are some details of the event (that's what it's called here) and the corresponding levels on the Richter scale for villages affected:

I hope all of 'yours' are safe and everyone there is in my prayers

And here is the Italian ANSA News, which so far hasn't put it in English

ANSA ITALIAN

This is the link for the English ANSA so you could check ot through the day

IHere you can watch Italian TV on line FREE. The RAI NEWS 24 will be the best and RAI chanels 1 and 2 plus Channel 5 are the best for news. Here's the link again:

I hope all of 'yours' are safe and everyone there is in my parayers

I'm at about 100 km. from the epicentre: there are no problems in my area... but this night we have been waked up from the earthquake that has been very strong!
My prayers for the victims.

Luca

I live in Rome and tonight at 3.30am the tremor was strong enough to awake us. We had some fear but never thought it would have caused so many damages and victims.

The word is not good. As many as 50 people killed and the number likely to rise. Apparently blocks of buildings were destroyed or damaged. Many without homes.

May they find shelter and and safety. And our condolences to the families of those who were killed.

Elba, Grazie. I have a friend from Italy who lives here in Michigan who has need of those links. He is not awake yet.
He is from Sicily. I do not know if he has direct family in Abruzzo area. Here it is just after 9am.
Grazie,
MiaAna

The damage is centred close to L'Aquila and surrounding communities. I am in Sora and slept through although there is minor damage here in town.

I'm visiting family in Agnone, about 70 km away, and the quake woke me up. There was some damage here, but not much. All of the public buildings were closed so that they could assess the structures. Family in Chieti say there was more damage there, but nothing like poor L'Aquila. As Essgee said, the word from there is not good.
