Minniti in France?

Postby javabambino » 06 Apr 2009, 05:22

I'm researching my husband's Minniti family from Reggio Calabria. Not much is known beyond his grandfather, Vincenzo Minniti b. 11 Dec 1896. His mother's given name was Marianna (?). His father's name was Nicola Minniti. Nicola went to France to find work but Marianna refused to leave Italy, so he left Marianna and Vincenzo (possibly other children). It is believed he "took up" with a French woman and started a family there as well. It's been told that there a Italian/French Minniti line in Boston, MA that is from Nicola's 2nd family. I don't know how true that is, but would like to find Nicola and his parents/siblings, etc in Reggio at least (possibly from Tropea area). Would also see if more is available to know about Carone Family - see below.

Vincenzo immigrated with wife, Rosa Carone to the US, leaving Napoli on 22 Oct 1923 on the SS Conte Rosso and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. Ship's manifest states their last permanent residence in Italy was s.domenico di Ricadi. Lists family contact in s.domenico di Ricadi as Vincenzo Carone (Rosa's brother AND Vincenzo's cousin).

Thanks in advance to all who can offer help.
