Casella Family Rochester, NY

Postby Michael0928 » 10 Apr 2009, 12:17

I was wondering if anyone has information where my great gradparents - John and Mary Casella were from in Sicily. They immigrated to the US in about 1912, and I think there were from the region of Catania. They lived in Rochester, then owned a farm in Fairport, NY. I believe they had 12 children.

Mike,

from the same site I pointed you before, I found out that possible Maria 's maide name was Faro... (found an obituary of John Faro who mentioned his sister Mary Casella of Fairport :wink: )

So I searched in the NY Arrival and I believe this is the arrival manifest for your great-grandparents:

From Ancestry.com:

Microfilm Serial: T715

they were joining their uncle Faro Giovanni
So, possible the place of origin was Piedimonte Etneo, Catania Province - Sicily region?

Thanks for your help. The information that you provided appears to match some of the information I was told. I remember my aunt telling me that my great gradparents were from a town that translated to 'Big Tongue' I am not sure if that translates into a town's name.

You're welcome Mike :D

I believe the town your aunt was referring to should be "Linguaglossa"

Lingua = Tongue
Grossa = Big

In fact Linguaglossa is 3,7 miles far from Piedimonte Etneo... :wink:

Have you read all the Newspapers articles regarding your family on the FultonHistory.com site? There are really many... :D

Laura,

I have read some of them. Thanks again. I am new to this website, but if I understand correctly, your role is to help people with their genealogy questions?

Do you know if there is any way to find out if I have relatives in Sicily?
