Demetrio Dore

Postby hamchuck » 21 Apr 2009, 20:37

I could use a little help with my wife's Grandfather. I am not sure of where in Italy he was born, but it is believed it may have been Genoa. I don't know much about his life before he arrived in the U.S. in 1908, but I may have one good clue.

His Name: Demetrio Dore
Born: Sept. 30, 1874 Italy
Died: Dec 18, 1958 San Francisco, CA

Father: Pietro Dore (born: Italy)
Mother: Maria A Sanna (born: Italy)

I have been told that worked as a Carabiniere during his time in Italy.

I don't know of any siblings.

Any information will be appreciated on Demetrio or his parents/siblings if found.

Thank you
Ham

Hi,

maybe requesting his naturalization papers may be helpful to detect his birth place...

Ham,

I believe this should be an important clue for you:

it's an arrival manifest for Emilio Dore Sanna.
Arrival on September 19, 1920
He was joining his brother Demetrio Dore in San Francisco. His last residence was Nola (Napoli Province - Campania region), he was leaving in Italy his wife Ersilia Acone.
On the second page you can find his birth place listed... it seem Bessate... perhaps it is Besate (Milano - Province - Lombardia region) :?:

page 2:

Hope this helps...

Hello Laura,

That is interesting on the manifest. Would it have been normal to list the mother's maiden name with his surname (Dore Sanna)?
Perhaps if Besate is their place or residence, their may be some records of Demetrio working as a Carabiniere. But this is great because it is yet another clue.

My wife and her brothers only remember someone they called, "Uncle MoMo". Emilo is a possible contender for MoMo 8O

P.S. the #3 Kramer Place listed on the Ellis Island Manifest for Demetrio is correct, so that checks out. :D

One step at a time. The Dore's have been the most difficult lineage for me to trace so far.

Hello my last name is Dore. We are decendants of Sardinian Italian heritage. If you go to the Island of Sardinia Dore is a very common name. All of my family is from Sardinia Italy. Also the last name Sanna is a Sardinian last name. I live in Europe and on the island of Sardinia itself, there are over 600 people with the last name Dore. Also above Sardinia, is the French Island of Corsica. Also Dore can be a French last name as well. Iam related to 90% of the Dore population in Italy. We as well may be family.
