Francesco Cavallo from Corleto Perticara

Postby dmwade » 29 Apr 2009, 22:29

Hello,
This is my first post.
I am researching my father's family. He was orphaned at a young age so we know very little.

To the best of my knowledge, my grandfather, Francesco (Frank) Cavallo first came to the US in 1897 at the age of 27 and then must have returned back to Italy and then back to the US 1903. According to the ship records, he was married. He was likely born in 1871. His death certificate shows his father as James and his mother as Mari Scavallo.

The information I have is Frank married Angela Maria Scavone possibly in 1895. Her death certificate shows her father as Nicola Scavone and her mother as Rosa Lopinta. I think Angela came to the US (Chicago, IL) possibily in 1909 with two sons, Nick and James (possibly Nicola and Vincenzo) . My father, Rocco, was born in Chicago in 1910.

I would greatly appreciate any information on how I can locate records in Italy or if any of the names mentioned are in your family tree.
I got the location Corleto Perticara from my grandfather's passenger record from the ship.
Thank you,
Dee

Hi and welcome :D
From the http://www.ellisisland.org/ site
this is the 1909 arrival manifest for Angela Maria Scarrello? travelling with her two child Nicola and Vincenzo Cavallo.
They were joining their husband/father Francesco Cavallo living in Jefferson street - Chicago. Them both were born in Corleto Perticara:

I believe the correct maiden name for Angela Maria was Scaviello.

edit to add:

you can check also this (free) site, if you're interested in finding records for your ancestors:

This is the birth certificate for Fanino (Tonino?) Cavallo on 1912:

on this act Angela's last name seems Scavullo... :?

Laura,
Thank you very much for your help and copies of information. I did not get the 2nd page of the manifest from Ellis Island when I tried, so your copy is a great help. Also the Birth Certificate for Tony is definitely my uncle. My Dad mentioned a brother named Tony. I have not been able to locate a birth certificate for my Dad yet, many I not using the right tools. I will try the links that you mentioned. Again that you very much!!
