Help with finding a birth certificate, please!

Post by Nat98 »

Hi everybody!
Can anyone guide me on where to look for an old relative's Italian birth certificate?

He was born in 1875 in Catanzaro, don't know exactly where.
Pascual or Pascuale Pirilli we believe was his real last name. He then moved to South America and changed it to Pirille.

I would greatly appreciate any help!!!

Thanks! and hope you are all having a great weekend.

No. I should have explained it better.
He was born in Catanzaro and moved to Argentina in the early 1900's. He lived there until he died. Some later generations moved to the US.
Thank you.

Hi everyone! Thanks for your help!

Here's more detailed info. I'm looking into finding his parent's names and hopefully confirm birth date.

I am looking for Pasquale (or Pascuale) PIRILLI's birth certificate
Born in Catanzaro in 1875 (approximately, maybe 1873-1878)
Arrived to Argentina in 1898 (Perseo Ship)
He died in 1937 in Argentina.

Thank you all and hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day!

Did you try writing to El registro de Personas en Buenos Aires for possible death certificates that may have info on his parents names? My grandfather also moved to Argentina from italy in 1929. You could also check
http://www.cemla.com/
which is the Centro de Estudios Migratorios Latinoamericanos, where you can order his arrival certificate which may have information about where he came from in italy and maybe information about his parents and i think is only about 15 euros.
could this be him? I noticed the different arrival date, did he go back to italy? there's a website where you can search arrivals from argentina, brasil and U.S.A you have to register but its free.

The one thing I would try, and other members might have a better way since I'm not even close to being as good as some of the members here but I might try sending an e-mail in italian to the Archivio di Stato di Catanzaro at
as-cz@beniculturali.it asking for a lista di leva since he left when he was 23, and 18 was the draft age for Pasquale Pirilli born around 1874-75 Son of Giuseppe Pirilli and Cecilia, and explain to them that you don't know the exact commune in Catanzaro he was born in. The only thing is I'm not sure if they would search their archives without having the exact commune, there are 80 comunes in Catanzaro so they might not want to. Its a shot, try it and let me know what happens.
Looking for the surnames Mosca( Marches ), Pizzoglio (Piedmonte), Chiacchiera, Lobasso(Bari), Gallo(Malvito), Azzolina (Messina).
