Look at this success story--found a relative!!!

Postby donnawright » 17 May 2009, 07:14

I went to Facebook and selected "groups" at the bottom of the page. In the "search" field, I entered Montevitozzo, a hamlet near Sorano and a location that came to me out of the cobwebs of my brain. Sure enough there was a group for Montevitozzo. I randomly selected a female and send a message: "First of all.... do you speak English?"

Here is her reply...From a face in the crowd.

oh yeah!! I speak little english but you are my akin
I' m Giuseppe Cerri's nephew. Giuseppe cerri, now is dead, he was son of Gina Modesti, the sister of Gelsa (perhaps your grand mother..) and you are perhaps son or nephew of Agrisio or Domenico Biagianti?
I have photo of your family. 30 years ago Assunta She has got to Montevitozzo

I'm waiting your news

Hi Donna......Facebook is great!!
Last month I began looking for those with my surnames of interest in the towns near my Nonni's birthplace.......I found two cousins!!!
Of course, the language is problematic, my Italian consist of words and I sure can't string them together to form a sentence!! :P
But nonetheless.....a great way to reach out and make connections!!

I am not a facebook user because I have to admit it makes me a bit nervous. Are these nerves justified or should I put our family name out there and see what I find?

I can understand that, even I do not use my real name on the internet, although in the beginning before I was internet savvy I did.....

In trying to contact family I just used our surnames, looked for those in the exact area of interest and included the names I knew in the family that should be recognized.

As for facebook....you don't have to give your exact location and personal data, I certainly didn't!! And I didn't use my personal email, but the email I use for all other purposes......
