Olivito / Varca Family in San Giovanni

Postby olivetsk » 01 Jun 2009, 03:42

I am looking for any relatives of Salvatore Olivito (Oliveto) or Julie (Guilia) Varca from San Giovanni. Savlatore came to the US in 1913 when he was 17 years old, Julie came to the US in 1903 when she was 11 months old. Savatore and Julie both settled after marriage in Lumberport WV and most of the childern still live in that area. My dad is Joe Oliveto and he is the youngest of the 7 brothers. Please if anyone reading this is a relative in the San Giovanni area or know of the my family please responde to this post. Thank you.

Edit to add additional info:
The following archives which contains an image of the marriage record, list the names of their parents, and the spelling as OLIVITTO.
Perhaps a mistake in spelling on the record.

Hi:

We are the Varca family from Sclafani Bagni, Palermo-Sicily, Italia. There are three San Giovanni's: Trentino-Adige, Tuscany and Abruzzi. Which one is your tribe from?

Here is the link to the family's ancient mountain top village: http://www.comune.sclafani-bagni.pa.it/. Do some research, perhaps we have ties rooted there. If you are using MS IE8 then you cant use the Translator accelerator program to view the website in English, or Babel Fish or Yahoo.

Please fee free to contact me.

Best Regards,
Mark A. Varca, J.D.

My family is also from San Giovanni Fiore with the spelling Oliveto. My grandfather was Louis Oliveto DOB 06/09/1888, and he came to the USA leaving a brother Salvatore there. He married Elena Mele DOB 06/12/1888. Her Sister, Barbara also immigrated to the U.S.
My great grandfather Salvatore Oliveto DOB 1860 and Great Grandmother Angelina (Mascaro) Oliveto DOB 02/18/1860 also immigrated later. They were both born in San Giovanni Fiore also. He was married to Angelina Mascaro DOB 02/18/1860. They also had a daughter, ( grandfathers sister) named Rosina. She married Salvatore Mele.
Outside of my grandfathers brother, Salvatore Oliveto, the rest immigrated.
My grandmother had 8 brothers and sisters. I am unsure if 3 of them ever immigrated. (Anthony, John, Salvatore.
Of both families all immigrated to Price Utah.
I am looking for any children of either family still living in San Giovanni Fiore.
