Gargiulo family

Postby NCJE2910 » 05 Jun 2009, 15:51

If anyone has extra time and can help me in anyway it would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for info on my great-grandmother's family. Her name was Edith Gargiulo Mirabella. I need info on her parents Raffaele Gargiulo and his wife Angelina. They were from Italy, born in the 1870s and immigrated to New York in the early 1900s. Any info will help. Thanks!!!

There is at least one other Raffaele Gargiulo in NY born abt the same time.
This may be the correct manifest for your Raffaele
Names transcription by Ellis Island 8O

possible 1899 manifest
23 May 1899 SS Archimede, Naples to NY
lines 16-17

Raffaele Garginlo 23, abt 1876
- Tailor
- last residence Taranto
- destination NY
- joining brother Alfredo
(may be Taranto, Apulia)
Angiolina Jania 20, abt 1879
Surname is probably Fania

edit: corrected brother's name

That's terrific :D !
It really helps when the manifest has the last residence on it, the earlier manifests generally didn't.

This could be the 1900 census, but as Vj pointed out, there are two Raphael's born about the same time and living in New York. Profession is once again listed as a tailor.

1900 United States Federal Census

Name: Raphael Gargiuli
[Raphael Gargiulo]
Home in 1900: Manhattan, New York, New York
Age: 23
Birth Date: Aug 1876
Birthplace: Italy
Race: White
Ethnicity: American
Gender: Male
Immigration Year: 1899 - very clearly stated on census image.
Relationship to head-of-house: Brother
Father's Birthplace: Italy
Mother's Birthplace: Italy
Marriage Year: 1897
Marital Status: Married
Years Married: 3
Residence : New York City, New York, New York

Household Members:
Name Age
Alfredo Gargiuli 28
Concetta Gargiuli 26
Frank Gargiuli 8
Vito Gargiuli 6
John Gargiuli 10/12
Raphael Gargiuli 23
Angelina Gargiuli 20
Frank Gargiuli 2 - son of Raphael and Angelina, born in Italy.
Josephine Gargiuli 1/12 - daughter, born in New York.

The birth date for the above is listed as August of 1876. :?
Both the Raphael's for the WWI draft list birth dates of
November 1875 and January 1876. Raphael of 1875 is married to a
Laura? and the Raphael of 1876 is married to an Angelina.

Hello!
Although the 1899 manifest doesn't show son Frank, it does list brother Alfredo (1900 census) as who they were joining
