Need more info on Santa Foto of Contessa Entellina

Postby michkajo » 24 Jun 2009, 23:45

Santa Foto was born in Contessa Entellina, Sicily in the 1850's. She moved to New Orleans, LA in the 1870's. She was married to a man named Antonino Giacomino. She died in New Orleans in 1926.
She had 3 children that survived to adulthood. Rosa, Mary, and Frank(he changed the spelling to Jacomino). I really could use some tips or help in finding out which Santa Foto she is, anything about her parents, or where Antonino Giacomino is from, his ancestors...
I also can't find anything on there voyage to New Orleans, their marriage, or their children's lives, until they are married with their own families.
Any help or tips would be GREATLY appreciated!!

The WW draft image is interesting. Both posts have the person being younger than Antonino and Santa would have been. I wonder maybe if they were related to the two people I'm looking for. In Santa's obituary it says she lived in New Orleans for 50 years, and was 76 years old in 1926.

I can't seem to find any record of them coming here from Italy, or of their children being born in New Orleans, although I know they were. I also can't find any census that has them or their children. I can only find census of children as adults, and married themselves.
Do you have any idea would I could do next?
Thanks so much for your time and effort.

Hi, Laura!

Great finds.

There's a Foto family right after the Locicero's on the 1920 census. Possible relations?

You guys are terrific!
With the exception of the 1892 info, all of the stuff is them. Frank is Santa and Antonino's son. Mary, their daughter married a Restivo, and Rosa their other daughter married a LoCicero. Enola is one of Frank's 3 children. Frank is my dad's grandfather, amd my dad(Westley), is the one I am doing this for :)
The Santa listed on Rosie Locicero's 1920 census is definitely the right one.
I think by this time Antonino or Tony has already died. In her obituary(1926) it also states that she is the widow of Tony Giacomino.
Antonino Giacomino was also still alive in 1903 when Frank got married, but I don't know when he died.
I had no idea that Enola's middle name was Santa (neat).
The thing that is a mystery to me is where were Antonino and Santa when they came here from the 1870's till they passed away?
Also I don't know which part of Italy Antonino came from yet, to try to figure out his parents and family.
Santa is from Contessa Entellina, but I'm not sure about who her parents were etc.

Pink67, I checked out the Contessa Entellina website.
I know she's not the one that died in 1924 in New Orleans.
However, I'm curious about the two that have birthdates ot 1845 and 1858.
One of them got married to an Antonino, but the last name is Tornetta??
AH, I'm so stuck. :?
