Case family - Gosaldo / Tiser

Postby decasa27 » 28 Jun 2009, 18:18

Hello All,

I have begun my quest to find my Italian roots and am beginning my search here. Any help or direction by anyone of you will be more appreciated!

My family comes from Gosaldo / Tiser and immigrated to the US in the early 1930's - John, Maria, Onore and Vernon. If anyone knows these names or can point me in the right direction to find someone who does I would be ever so grateful and thankful.

Best to all,

R. Case

Biff83,

INCREDIBLE!

What fantastic information and so quickly!

Is it possible to find out if anyone in my father's family - outside my father and his brothers - are still in Gosaldo today?

My father has never been "back home" and I am planning a trip to Italy later this fall - it would be fantastic and quite moving to actually meet my Italian family...if I indeed have one.

Once again - I can't thank you enough for your quick research and reply.

The best to you,

R. C.

Good evening all:

I found this website on a search this evening.

I'm also a relative of John and Maria Case. My father Amore Mario Case, was Onore (Bud) and Vernon (Leo)'s youngest brother, born in 1931 in Grand Junction.

I also found the original Ellis Island manifest with what looks like Grandpa Case's original trip to the US, and both my children and I sure found a family resemblance in the passport photo.

I'd love to hear from my relatives!

HELLO "maxwelca!"

I am Robert Case, Onore's youngest child.

You won't believe this but.....I JUST saw your message. I've just finished typing that opening line and, my parents JUST called! (I'm on the phone with them right now......) and they've just told me of your father's passing...oh I'm so very sorry to hear that sad news blended with the exciting news of your message here on this site.

Won't you please write to me directly at: decasa27@hotmail.com?

I will look forward to hearing from you directly. Once again, my condolences, thoughts, prayers and best wishes are yours.

Hello,
I am searching for the Case and Stalliviere family connection. My grandfather Cristino Stalliviere was born in Tiser. He came to the US through Havre France. He was traveling with someone named Chris Case. Chris Case could have possibly been a cousin or sister-in-law married to Margherita.
Chris Stalliviere settled in southwest Wyoming and worked in the mines. I don't know where Chris Case went on to settle.
I just recently found out about this family in Grand Junction.
My Mom use to write to Mercedes Case in Milano many years ago.

Hello Frankie759,
Unfortunately I can't be of much help to you in regard to the names you've listed. None of them have shown up in the research I've done on my family to date.

I do have this info to share, however...

In late 2009 I traveled back to Italy and Gosaldo/Tiser - the first time anyone from my family went "back home." I arrived in Gosaldo first and, not knowing what to do I stopped at the cemetery to see if there were any other "Cases" buried there. I found only one. After walking around the small village I drove over the short pass that links Gosaldo to the village of Tiser and stopped at the cemetery there. The place was filled with Cases and Schena's - it's as if they were/are the only ones who have and do live there. As I looked upon the headstones, many bearing enameled pictures of the deceased, I wondered if any of them were relatives of mine...some had to be. The thing is, you've got to know how to speak Italian and you've got to be able to spend some time there researching the Church records to see what you can learn.

Since that trip in 2009 I've learned that many residents of Tiser and Gosaldo left Italy to come to the US. Mining as well as furniture making were the main "industries" of the area and so the furniture makers traveled north to Germany to look for work and the miners came to the the mines in the States. My Grand Father's brother was one of the latter and he worked in the mines in Utah.

The Grand Junction connection comes from the fact that the Western slope of Colorado is a lot like the Dolomites around Gosaldo/Tiser. There was/is a big Italian population there so, like most immigrants, you congregate where others from your country have gathered before you.

I just looked through the photographs I took of the Tiser cemetery headstones and didn't find a pic that bears the last name, "Stalliviere," but that's not to say there aren't any of your ancestors there. Again, about 90% of the headstones bore the last name Case.

Hope these scattered bits of information are helpful and I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Ciao
