Gigliano or Vigliano from Gloucester

Postby seabreezes1 » 12 Jul 2009, 15:03

Just found out that my grandfather had an adopted brother who probably died after 1967. He was probably born around 1888 in Terrasini, Sicily. The first name was Giacomo. We think the last name was spelled Gigliano - but it could also be Vigliano - or some other spelling. He lived down the Fort section of town and had a family of sons and daughters, very pretty girls I am told. He remained close with the Favazza family throughout his life.

Does anyone know anything about Giacomo? Does the name "Ernest" ring any bells?

Adopted parents were: Francesco Paolo Favazza & Margherita Russo of Terrasini.
Siblings:
Giuseppe Favazza of Gloucester MA (my grand-dad)
Peter Favazza of Gloucester and San Pedro Ca
Paul Favazza of St. Louis MO
Caterina Favazza Aluio of Lawrence MA and Gloucester
Grace Favazza Ventimiglia of Gloucester
Giovanna Favazza Lorenzo of Lawrence & Gloucester
Salvatore of Sicily
Maria Favazza of Sicily

The siblings Uncle Liborio Favazza emigrated to Memphis TN and Aunt Caterina Favazza Orlando emigrated to Gloucester.

Oh my goodness, Sue! This is fantastic!

I was told he lived just on the corner near my grandparents house at #28 Fort Square. This lists his address as 16 Fort Square. All those girls, and the only son and first dtr with the correct papanomy names. I was also told he was Uncle Paul'a age, DOB 1890. You found him!

Thank you, so much.

Karen

Thanks - I actually got nice resolution on that line. Fascinating, to me, at least. Have his obituary and even remember my dad going to that funeral of an "uncle" that I had never met. See the bottom of this page for genealogy.

Hi saw your question and my Grandfather was Enesto Vegliano. He had 10 children and lived on the fort overlooking the beach. My mother is the youngest and yes the daugters were beautiful. I think I may have met your grandfather. My grandmther's maiden name was Rosa Scola.

Thanks - that's part of my website :) Funny how circular the search for family becomes when conducted on the internet: web.me.com/seabreezes1...rubbed.HTM

However, you noted that Frank & Margaret are deceased, and changed the spelling of Antoinette. Do you have connections to the family?

Hi, Yes I am Elizabeth Ann Vegliano's Youngest Daughter, She is the youngest of Dutchie's 10 children. Don't trust my spelling of Antionett, but she has always gone by Dolly. and Vincie is a nick name I think it may be Vincenza. Margarett, The oldest was married to a Rigoussa, and just died a few years ago, just short of 93 years old and Joesephine must be that old now and Mary could be 90. We always new that dutchie was adopted but not much more. Duchie's house overlooked the greasy pool and we always were there for Fiesta. The last one I remeber when Duchie was alive, we had 100 family members there back in the early 70's.
