Palazzola son of Antonina Favazza

Postby seabreezes1 » 12 Jul 2009, 15:10

My great-great grandmother was a widow with one son before she married my great-great grandfather, Antonino Favaloro.

I am told that this oldest boy was a good man who was widowed twice himself. His third wife bore him 3 children when he was in his 70s. The family originated in Terrasini, Sicily. They emigrated to Gloucester MA as young adults. We have tons of Palazzolas in Gloucester (with varying L and Z counts in the spelling of the name.) We think this half uncle's first name began with an S. Does anyone have information tying this family together?

The half siblings were: Serafino Favaloro, Rosalia Favaloro Frontiero and Anna Favaloro Frontiera.

Laura -

This is amazing! Gosh, how did you ever find this? The address, that passport in 1923, the young wife, the 2 girls (one more would follow), even an older son with my great-grandad's name. It seems to fit. I'll verify with my elderly cousin who remembers him. My cousin is about the age of the dtrs. I'll let you know.

Thank you, so much!

You're very welcome Karen!
I (like everybody on this forum) love help people here!

Just a little note... on his passport application he stated he did emigrate on 1896 and he lived in the U.S. for first in Michigan (he was naturalized on 1902 in Detroit) so possible his son Serafino was born there and not in MA.

I'm searching for other clues....

Hello Karen! :D

From Ancestry.com this is the Gloucester City Directory 1939-1940, he's listed as:

Gasper Pallazola (Antonetta :!: ) Fisherman - h 55 Fort Square

So, his wife's real italian firs name was Antonia/Antonietta

[img=http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/5589/palazzologasperctydirec.th.jpg]

On 1944 he's also listed :

[img=http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/1091/palazzologasper1944.th.jpg]

So, possible he died very old :wink:

Hi, Laura -

This is beautiful! Yes I heard he died in his 90s, a very old man.

The family is very casual with some of these names, Americanizing it, using the Sicilian version, and the nicknames. Then they tend to change the spelling every few years, too. I found several other relatives on the pages you provided. Is this a free searchable directory somewhere out there on the web? What's the url? I'd love to thumb through the Gloucester Directory for a number of people. I'd also love to get a copy of the 1930 census by block and just go over that entire section of town. Is that possible on line?
Thank you!
Karen

Karen,

You can find these years for the Gloucester directory on the (payment) site Ancestry.com:

Massachusetts City Directories
Gloucester
Original Images
This database contains images of original records.

Please choose a year:
1870-1871 1924 1951
1905 1925 1955-1956
1913 1929-1930 1957
1916 1944 1965

link to this page:
http://search.ancestry.com/Browse/list. ... Gloucester

Ancestry.com has very great databases and yes, you can also search the 1930 census "manually" page by page....

You can "search" the site using their 15 trial days for free.... as I saw you have a very large family and a very extensive tree it should be great for you to check that site...
