Giargiari's Montecorvia

Postby Giargiari » 16 Jul 2009, 12:32

Oreste Giargiari immigrated to United States in 1901, followed by Maddalena Pastore (his soon to be wife) in 1902. Their region of departure is listed as Montecorvia. I am looking for Giargiari surname possibly around this region specifically to research his (Giargiari) family pre 1900. Thank you.

Thank you. I could make a call, but do not speak Italian. I am looking more for records of my grandfather's relatives in Italy. Names, birth dates, if he had any siblings. Thank you.

Hello!
Montecorvia

Did you mean Montecorvino Rovella (Province of Salerno, Campania Region)?
Do you have your family's US records?
Sometimes it really helps to know exact birth dates and birth locations, etc, to be sure you have the correct family when your doing research in Italy. First names were very often repeated in traditional naming patterns.
(1st son named after paternal grandfather, etc)
If you need help with census or military records we can help you look.

Thank you,
Yes I do and will reply to this message later with the details. And yes we have had a chore with the repeated first male names! Is the 1930 census records available? Thank you for your help. Should I post back on this message with more details?

Yes, please stay on this post.
The 1930 census is available on ancestry. com and footnote. com (no images on footnote)
The more details you add the faster the search should go (names, dates, locations).
Thank you!

The ship record shows his name as Oreste Giorgiari, ship was Trave or Bremen, or Bremen was the town the ship sailed from? Date ship left was 6/12/01

He also had a brother who came over around the same time Clodoveo or Clodovea Giargiari. Thank you.

That really helps, thank you.

Did you mean Montecorvino Rovella (Province of Salerno, Campania Region)? yes is the correct region. All of the Giargiari's are not listed on the 1930, particulary the one's in Philadelphia. Does this mean they were not available or possibly hid?

We'll be happy to look - your surname may just be badly misspelled or transcribed

I have seen that record on the sisters and the aunt and could not get confirmation from any present living family that they were the same family, thank you. But they must be because he had two sisters for sure and one brother Clodoveo. I have only seen it misspelled as Giorgiari, but who knows it could be more.

I only see two on the record you sent, not three Giargiari's. Did you see the third on another record.

Apparently the LDS (FamilySearch) hasn't microfilmed the civil records for Montecorvino Rovella

You can request your grandfather's birth record from Montecorvino Rovella by writing to the comune:

Italian form letter generator with instructions:

Address:

Comune di Montecorvino Rovella
