Researching the above surnames.

Paternal great grandfather was Guiseppe Todaro (?) married to Guiseppa DiMaggio (1842 -1922) who lived in the area of San Cipirello / San Guiseppe Jato. Known children were Angelo (?), Calegaro (1876 -1944), Guiseppe (1878 - ?), Salvatore (1879 -1949) (my grandfather) and Francesco (1889 - 1944). Calegaro (Charlie) with his wife Grace also known as Rachel (Caruso), Guiseppe (Joe), Salvatore (Sam), and Francesco (Frank) immigrated to New Orleans between 1902 and 1909. Guiseppa (DiMaggio) immigrated to New Orleans in 1911. In New Orleans, Joe married Florence Giammalva, Frank married Nunzia (Nancy) Giamalie and Sam married Rosa Magro (my grandmother).

Rosa Magro was from Palermo but am not sure if that refers to the city or the province and information on the Magro name is limited.

Any information regarding this line and related families in the San Cipirello area would be greatly appreciated.

When you say researching I assume you mean you want to either make a family tree in an orderly fashion and explore the family as far back as possible beyond the 18th century back to the 17th century and church records. Your best bet then is to go to the nearest family history library of the Mormon Church and rent out the microfilm of the civll records for San Cipirello which date from 1860 to 1920 and trace births, marriages and deaths for your family. The records are written in Italian and can be copied. You can also go to www.ellisland.org and trace back the entry of your immigrant ancestors into the uSA and reveiwing the ships manifest for vital information. You can locate immediate relatives by going to www.paginebianche.it and putting in the surname in the first line and the town in the third line and click CERCA for those people with the surnames selected in San Cipirello by name, address and telephone number. This should start you off. May I sugggest you get a book called Italian genealogical Records by Trafford R. Cole which is an easy read and will help you greatly in your research. Peter

Looking in the phone book, there are 14 listings for Todaro in S. Cipirello and 7 in San Giuseppe Jato. The two comunes are right next to each other.
The address for the Municipio, Ufficio Anagrafe, in S. Giuseppe Jato is:
P. GiulioCesare
S. Giuseppe Jato (PA)
There is no Ufficia Anagrafe listed in S. Cipirello.
You might try writing and asking for records.
