I am 21 years old and decided to make a family tree of my family but i cant get beyond 4 Generations back. I know my Grandmothers parents were from Sicily, while my Grandfathers parents were from Bari.

If anyone can find anything to help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Grandmother- Catherine Durante Her father- Dominick Durante Her mother- Giuseppa Gerace??

I would also appreciate the finding of my grandmothers mothers correct apelling and name. I've seen Guisippini, Guiseppa and multiple others.

www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwisdom/fr ... earch.html to reassure you thatyou are not missing anything to go beyond 4 generations back.

4 generations should put you inthe realm of the first 1809 records on microfilm at your nearest Mormon church familyhistory library (www.familysearch.org). Please advise what specifics can we provide so that you can continue your research. =Peter=

Bari is both a province and a town, while Sicily is a region....we must identify the exact town of origin in order to obtain records....

Have you completed all US research?

If you wish to know how to obtain these records go to the following website. Form letters in Italian are supplied here as well

www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwisdom/it ... tters.html

The address to mail them is Ufficio di Stato Civile and the addresses will be immediately transmitted to you once you tell us the towns of origin.=Peter=

Thank you so much for the update :D .
We'll be happy to see what else we can find for both sides of your family.
Have you tried out the Fulton Newspaper site - it takes some time to come up with the right combination of search terms. No doubt there are more articles on your family.

Your grandfather, Michael Cirillo, was born in Italy (province of Bari)?
Have you been able to locate any of his family's ship manifests?
Do you know if their original destination was Syracuse (Onondaga County) NY?

Thanks!

Valarie I found out from my relatives that the Cirillo side of my family were destined to Syracuse, NY while my grandmothers side (Durante and Gerace) were destined for Utica, NY. I hope this little bit of information helps.

My Aunt and mother are already amazed at the information that was found and cant believe that they are finding out things about their father and grandparents that they didn't even know!

Hello :D !

Yes the destination helps.
I'm hoping we can find your Durante & Geraci manifests.

Your Cirillo family seemed to get larger with every manifest  !
I'm so glad your aunt & mother are enjoying the hunt - it really can be fun.

DURANTE/GERACI

Do you know who the Joseph Pape mentioned in Josephine's obituary belonged to?
Was the Lena on the 1920 census his wife or sister?

Is this his SSDI?

Name: Joseph Pape
SSN: 129-01-xxxx
Last Residence: 13350 Herkimer, Herkimer, New York
Born: 21 Jun 1901
Died: Nov 1972
State (Year) SSN issued: New York (Before 1951)

Calvary Cemetery Herkimer
Pape Joseph A. 6/21/1901-11/21/1972 hus of Marian E.
Pape Marian E. 6/21/1911-5/18/1993 wife of Joseph A.

It usually only takes finding one manifest with the last residence in Italy to help us find more.
Chances are Joseph (Giuseppe?) was born in Italy...

Thanks! Valarie

Joseph Pape was Josephine's first husband and he widowed her. And Lena married Joseph Pape Jr. but they did not use junior so Joseph Pape was Josephine's first husband before Dominick Durante and they had a son also named Joseph Pape. Then Lena and Joseph were divorced and then Joseph married Marian. Joseph Pape senior was definitely born in Italy and my Aunt believes that he was born in Palermo. My GGrandmother we believe was pregnant and she ran away with Joseph Pape against her parents wishes. Then he passed away and Dominick had sent to Italy for a wife and they hooked him up with Josephine.

PAPE/GERACI

Great, that may help us locate a manifest
Josephine should have traveled under Geraci (women in Italy keep their maiden names).

Was Lena's given name Corinna?
There is a Corinne & Harry Pape living on Salina in a 1931 directory (no Joseph)

Thank you
