Vincenzo Mora from Sora circa 1900

Postby Frankt » 16 Oct 2009, 14:47

Hi to you all,

Well I have stated on the genealogy trial I guess, is it relay that addictive!!!??

My grandfather was Vincenzo Mora from Sora and like most families there is a tale and again like most families these tales can be somewhat extended by poetic licencse or are they?

My grandfather Vincenzo was stonemason from Sora who was working in Glasgow Scotland when he met my Granmother Catherine. He returned to Italy thinking noting of it until she arrived in Sora by horse & cart. She clearly loved him a great deal and was determined he was not going to get away. They married and lived in the village for a number of years until travelling to Ellis Island, as it appears half the village did!! whilst awaiting to clear at Ellis island Vincenzo strayed slightly upsetting my grandmother who apperantley shot him!! relatives already in New York were able to mnove him to a hospital where he recovered and he returned to Italy and then Glasgow Scotland.

I realy would love to get to the bottom of it, poetic licencse has its limitations.

Then the story of how the family arrived in Sora.

Apparently my grandfathers great grandfather was run out of Spain, a bandit no less. The story also includes the fact that the Mora's were descendant from the Arab Moers whom occupied Spain for so many years

Unfortunatley My Mother has since died and I am afraid that her generation were in the habit of keeping to many secrets, I believe they should be out and descendants have the right to know of their past, good or bad.

I belive that some relations are living outside Orlean near Paris, they have a cafe or resteraunt. Aunts and Uncles have returned to Sora a number of times but information has not being passed on.

So Vincenzo Mora who married Catherine and then went to Ellis Island and Glasgow Scotland, any relatives out there
bandits or not!!

Frank

Given all the skeletons I've rattled in the family closet this past year, I'm really thinking about nailing that door shut!!!!! No wonder nobody would help me in my genealogy quest!!! And yes, genealogy is very addictive, but fun, frustrating and exciting!!

Have you obtained all US documents? Do you have complete information on Vincenzo? Exact birthdate, parents name? Have you sent to the town of origin for any records? Checked for microfilmed records? These are just a few ideas to get you back farther in time.....

Hi,
if I understand well, you are searching for relatives of Vincenzo Mora; so you needing of to find the siblings of:
Vincenzo Mora (born in Sora, birthdate unknown; died in 1945 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland) son of Salvatore Mora and Francesca Alviani, married in Glasgow at Catherine Lynch in the 01 JUL 1915 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland.
Maybe some relative, as you said- emigrated in USA... but without the names is a bit hard...
the better way is to find the names of Vincenzo siblings, by Mormon's microfilms:
Topic Italy, Frosinone, Sora - Civil registration

Titles Registri dello stato civile, 1809-1899 Sora (Frosinone). Ufficio dello stato civile
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... umns=*,0,0
and after cold be more easy ... the search....
best regards,
suanj
