DeLuca Family

Postby sisa » 18 Oct 2009, 01:31

I am a DeLuca. Unfortunately, Myself, parents and brother are the only members of the DeLuca side that I know of that are still here. My DeLuca name seems to be very difficult to research. Part of our issue is that my grandfather past away when my father was very young. Most of his family information was lost. I am think of starting with my Great Great Grandfather DeLuca, Antonio estimating he was born about 1788. He was from the town Benevento. I'm not sure of his wife's name. A son of there's, my great grandfather, was names Melchizedek DeLuca. He married Cy Persina (not sure of her maden name). I'm also not sure if they were married in italy and came to America or came single and then married. I know my grand father Carl DeLuca was born here in America.
I also am not sure of sibilings for any of my grand parents.

This side of my family is very frustrating, I can not seem to find any connections. I would love to get as much as possible for my dad. He asks me daily of how I'm coming with this project.

Any help or information would be wonderful. appreciative.

Sisa, if Antonio De Luca was born around 1788, the son, Melchisedek must be born around 1810 or so... or the Antonio birth year is 1888 and not 1788??
You can explain better?

The Melchisedecco ( italian version of Melchisedek) DE LUCA emigrated in USA declaring on WWI draft registration card that nearest relative is Carlo De Luca in Italy:
World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918
about Melchisedecco Deluca
Name: Melchisedecco Deluca
County: Luzerne
State: Pennsylvania
Birth Date: 31 Apr 1877

Race: White
FHL Roll Number: 1893748
DraftBoard: 3
Age:

Occupation:

Nearest Relative:

Height/Build:

Color of Eyes/Hair:

Signature: View image

so the next step is to know where Melchisedek lived in USA and when and where Carl son was born....

I found this census abt Melchisedek De Luca born in Italy and having a Charles son:
1920 United States Federal Census
about Melchiorlcco Delves
Name: Melchiorlcco Delves
[Mitchelson Deluca]
Home in 1920: Yatesville, Luzerne, Pennsylvania
Age: 43 years
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1877
Birthplace: Italy

Relation to Head of House: Boarder
Father's Birth Place: Italy
Mother's Birth Place: Italy
Marital Status: Widow
Race: White
Sex: Male
Year of Immigration: 1901

Household Members: Name Age
Patrick Most 24
Arline Most 20
Charles Most 4 0/12
Gennie Most 1 0/12
Melchiorlcco Delves 43
Carlo Delves 17
born around 1903 in Italy and emigrated in 1909; father and son naturalized in 1916....
I believe that could be your ancestors... in this case the father of Melchisedek was born around 1850 or so and not in 1788...

You know that Melchisedek is a rare first name in Italy and the only Melchisedek emigrated found from squigy is the Melchisedecco born in 1877 in Tufo, Avellino, Italy... he in effects had a son Carl/Charles but born in Italy...
here the 1930 census of Carl DeLuca son of Melchisedek and married at Rose:

1930 United States Federal Census
about Carl Deluca
Name: Carl Deluca
Home in 1930: Yatesville, Luzerne, Pennsylvania

View Map
Age: 27
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1903
Birthplace: Italy
Relation to Head of House: Head
Mother's Name: Asierno
Spouse's Name: Rose
Race: White
Occupation:

Education:

Military service:

Rent/home value:

Age at first marriage:

Parents' birthplace: View image
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Carl Deluca 27 born in Italy, imm. in 1909, naturalized in 1916
Rose Deluca 24 born in PA

Joseph Greco 68 uncle born in Italy
Asierno Felicella 55 born in Italy ( Acierno Felicella -maybe mother of Rose DeLuca)
Rachel Felicella 19 born in PA daughter
Christina Felicella 17 ditto

On WWI draft registration card, Melchisedek declaring that next of kin was Carlo De Luca- Italy, and in effects we find Carl De Luca living with the father Melchisedek in 1920 census; but the immigration year is 1909; when Melchisedek emigrated he was married; in 1920 he was widow... it could be possible that Carl emigrated also and then back in Italy, the mother must be died between 1904( imm. year of Melchisedek) and 1917 ( when Melchisedek declared on WWI draft registration card that the nearest relative is Carlo De Luca in Italy)..
Now you can say if this records are all right?

These records are amazing..... You gave me more information that I could have imagined getting this eary in my research. THis must be the same Melchisedek, my grand father is Carl (which we were amazed that he was born in Italy, we did not know that) My grandmother is Rose. Rose's mother is Felicella and her sisters are Rachel and Christine. They do have a brother Patrick, But he was the oldest so I assume he did not live with them after he married.

I would love to know if we have anyone residing in Italy. I know that Melchisedek's father is Antonio (I do not have his wife's name) But can you tell if Antonio or Melchisedek had sibilings?
I can not tell you how wonderful what you gave me to this point is to me and my father. Thank you.

Hi,
the better way is to search in the Tufo civil records by Mormon's microfilms
Topic Italy, Avellino, Tufo - Civil registration

Titles Registri dello stato civile, 1809-1899 Tufo (Avellino). Ufficio dello stato civile
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... umns=*,0,0
so you can find any sibling of Melchisedek and so to have a right idea of genealogic tree... after that you can contact the De Luca living currently in Tufo
http://www.paginebianche.it/execute.cgi ... =tufo&ind=
providing the names of Melchisedek's siblings...
hoping helpful,

Hi, no sure if the records that I found are rights, but they could be... just a idea...
I no found 1910 census for Melchisedek as a well for Carl....
but I found a probable record of 1910 abt a Carl De Luca ... the surname is misspelled and the age is no completely right:
Name: Carl Dulica
Age in 1910: 9
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1901
Birthplace: Italy
Relation to Head of House: Nephew
Father's Birth Place: Italy
Mother's Birth Place: Italy
Home in 1910: Laflin, Luzerne, Pennsylvania

Marital Status: Single
Race: White
Gender: Male

Joseph Bowman 32 head
Imsa Bowman 31 wife ( Luise) b. in Italy, imm in 1904
Antony Bowman 5
Louis J Bowman 3
Pasgua Bowman 10/12
Jones Dulica 33 born in Italy brother in law
Arlraic Dulica 11 born in Italy, female
Carl Dulica 9 born in Italy

I believe that Jones could be Melchisedek....
the Bowman family was italian also... Joseph Bowman really was the anglicized name of Generoso Bonomo and the wife ( Louise) really was Ermelinda De Luca born in Tufo
http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipm ... 2506060370
(travel crossed)
Ermelinda travelled just after:
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0011
and joining at Generoso Bonomo husband...
the family in 1920:
1920 United States Federal Census about Lourie Bowman

Age: 42 years

what you think
abt 1910 census

Jones Dulica 33 born in Italy brother in law

they could be your ancestors? You know if Carlo had a sister?

You are correct in the family chain. Many names are familiar. I just want to confirm more with the Bonomo's.... Melchisedek had a sister my father remembers them speaking of named Louise. Was there only 2 children of Antonio?

I recently came in contact again with a forgotten family member because her dad past away young and they lost contact. Our kids are now close friends. I always wondered how we were related. Now I know it was my great great Aunt Louise DeLuca who became a Bonomo. Thank you for that.

I will contact Tufo.... My thought is if Antonio DeLuca's Family all came to America then if Antonio had sibilings they may still be in italy or maybe his neices or nephews came to America and I can locate them..... This is just amazing!!!!!!

Melchisedek's wife past early in life, I believe you found about 1920. Her name is Cy Persina. We are not aware of her last name or if she has sibilings.

One last comment about the volumes of great information you have provided me, I recall my dad speaking of Joseph Greco. They/we call him Uncle, but we can not figure out how.

Again...... Thank you!

I have doing some digging.... My father finally came across the madien name of Melchisedecco's wife Cypresina Conte. I am not sure where she lived in Italy.

I am going to write to the town to see if they can provide me with Melchisedecco and Cypressina's parents. Do you know if they change a fee for information if not a set fee do they have a usual cost?

I do also plan to contact the Antonio DeLuca name and address that was provided and still living in Tufo.

Hi, but without sure data, as birthdate, marriage date and correct first name of Cypresina (?), well the officer cannot hel; I suggested to you the search by your self in Mormon's microfilm:
Topic Italy, Avellino, Tufo - Civil registration

Titles Registri dello stato civile, 1809-1899 Tufo (Avellino). Ufficio dello stato civile
that is the better way..
