Surnames Salamone and Orlando

Postby ItalianByMarriage » 21 Oct 2009, 23:01

I have just started researching the family history of my husband's Italian grandparents and am beginning with the family of his grandmother. I used the ellis island site and found the following information:

Filippa "Fannie" Orlando, born 1902
resided in Camporeale, Sicily
sailed to America with father Lorenzo and sister Concetta in 1916
mother Vincenza (Cospora, I think) stayed behind

Stefano Salamone, born 1892
resided in Camporeale, Sicily
sailed to America alone in 1910
followed brother Nicolo, who sailed to America in 1907
father Salvatore stayed behind

I have also emailed Parrocchia S. Antonio da Padova, which I believe is the parish in Camporeale. I asked for birth, Baptism, marriage, etc records for the above. I have not received a response, but it has only been a couple of days.

I have also started researching on the familyhistory.org LDS site, but so far haven't had much luck there.

What I would really like to find is an email address or website for a city hall or other public records location in Camporeale--is there such a thing?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Simplest way to go, interactive form letter mailed to the Stato Civile:

on this free site:
http://search.labs.familysearch.org/rec ... tml#p=home

you can find images of the acts from the Parish of Sant'Antonio in Camporeale... Don't know if the years are ok for your search...

thought they are not indexed, you have to browse them:

this is Stefano Salamone Baptism record (in latin): :D

Thank you!! Amazing! I didn't find Stefano (the page I think his name is on is covered up by a letter or something), but found Baptismal records for Filippa Orlando (great grandmother), her mother Vicenza Corpora, and HER mother Concetta (or Concepta) Rizzuto. I'm beginning to see why people say this is addicting--I'm not getting any work done at work and am staying up much too late at home!

Thanks for the suggestions!

Oh, I see it now, thanks!

By the way, in cases of infant Baptisms, in some cases I'm finding the date on the Baptismal record as the same as the "birth date" I found through other research--is that normal? (But in the case of Stefano Salamone, I have July 25 as the birthdate for Stefano Salamone and Aug 11 as the Baptismal date...)
