Schlappa

My dads grandparents last name was Schlappa or something in that manner, I haven't been able to find any information about the name, I have tried a myriad of different speellings Was wondering if you guys new what the origin was? I know that they are from Italy not sure whether it is northern or southern Italy. thanks

How about "Schiappa"? There are more than 100 listings in the Italian telephone directory using that spelling.

You can see the distribution of the Schiappa using this mapping tool which, unfortunately, seems to be down at the moment.
