Anna Vitale

Postby Diann » 26 Nov 2009, 14:10

Hello,

I am trying to locate Vitale family members. My great grandmother emigrated from Sciacca, Sicily in the late 1800's. Her maiden name was Anna Vitale. She married a Vincenzo Bono in New York about 1901. They moved to Boston and had serveral children. I am searching for her mother's maiden name.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Diann

You can request her long form birth record (estratto di nascita) by sending a form letter in Italian to the Uffico di Stato Civile in Sciacca. her parents namesd are listed therein.

www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwisdom/it ... tters.html

Mail the form letter to the address shown below located beneath MUNICIPIO found at www.tuttitalia.it/sicilia/93-sciacca

There is no charge for making the request.

You could also go to the nearest Mormon Family History Library (www.familysearch.org) and rent out the microfilm of the Sciacca civil records dating back to the 1820 to 1910. =Peter=

Hello, here's the address for ordering the marriage record that suanj :D found.
Ordering NYC Vital Records
New York City Archives

from NYC records by the Italian Genealogical Group
http://www.italiangen.org/
---

Do you have Anna Vitale's ship manifest?
Is this it?
If it is, there may be clues in who she was traveling with, who she was joining in NY and that she may have been in the US before

possible 1898 manifest

23 Feb 1898 SS Furst Bismarck to New York
lines 12-15

Michele Graffeo 29, abt 1869
- last residence Sciacca
- destination New York
- in US 1890-5 in Boston
- joining brother-in-law Michele Sclafani at 240 Elizabeth Street
wife Margherita Sclafani 21, abt 1877
- joining brother
daughter Margherita 11 mos, abt 1897
Anna Vitale 14, abt 1884
- last residence Sciacca
- destination New York
- in US 1891(?)-1898(?) in NY
- joining uncle Michele Sclafani at 240 Elizabeth Street

note: perhaps Anna was traveling with her mother's sister?

I found two different marriage records for Anna Vitale and Vincenzo Bono. I know they should be the same record. What is interesting is that Anna Vitale's mother's names are different. On the Buono record dated 04 Jan 1902, her mother's name is listed as Accusa Scapa. However, on the Bono, record dated 05 Jan, 1902 her mother's name is listed as Acciencia Telafani. I know my great grandmother's mom died when she was three. I'm wondering if Telafani should be Scalafani. Her marriage name was Bono, not Buono. Thanks again. Her father did remarry. She had one brother and two half-sisters (if that is the correct term). Thanks again.
