HOLLY, only last week did we have tio deal with an italian immigrant married with child came to the USA and disappeared never to turn up A name change must have taken place since all traces disappeared.

This started with the recruitment of Gangs of manual laborers recruited by "Padrones" to come to the USA on 6 month to one year contracts (building subways, dams, infrastructure stuff inthe post civilwar industrial revolution in the USA) and then returning to Italy. This evolved into more permanent stays and some men brought the wife and kids and others found "new" wives and kids. The old bromide "IL SALE DEL MARE SI FA DIMENTICARE became the excuse for the abandonments. There is much lore about this period in Italian history. =Peter=

This is quite surprising on two fronts, a) even today, people with pancreatic cancer rarely survive two years and b) in the 1950's, cancer was often diagnosed only weeks before death occurred - typically when symptoms became so severe that "exploratory" surgery was performed to see what the heck was going on.

Your exploratory surgery was to hasten death sinced destroying one major tumor frees all the other tumors held in check by the big one. =Peter=
