Re: Passaro and Cimarelli Family

Alicia, I found only a Beniamino Passaro emigrated in USA, born around 1860:
First Name: Beniamino
Last Name: Passaro
Ethnicity: Italy
Last Place of Residence: Napoli
Date of Arrival: Jul 06, 1892
Age at Arrival: 32y Gender: M Marital Status:
Ship of Travel: Hindoustan
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0499

http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0499

in 1920 census, if this record is right:

1920 United States Federal Census
about Josephine Cassaro
Name: Josephine Cassaro
[Josephine Purcaro] (PASSARO
Home in 1920: Jersey City Ward 5, Hudson, New Jersey
Age: 41 years
Estimated birth year: abt 1879
Birthplace: Italy
Relation to Head of House: Mother-in-law
Father's Birth Place: Italy
Mother's Birth Place: Italy
Marital Status: Widow
Race: White
Sex: Female

Year of Immigration: 1904

Rose Busali 25
Phileonena Busali 3
James Busali 1 6/12
Josephine Cassaro 41
Anthony Cassaro 13
Joseph Cassaro 12
Bennie Cassaro 8

from direct reading of census the surname is PASSARO; Josephine is widowed .... and living with Rose daughter married at Michael Busali (?? maybe Basile?)... the Josephine birthyear and arrival year are a bit wrong, but, personally, I have no doubts abt right Josephine....
Michael Basile son in law, was born in 1890 in NJ:

U.S. World War II Draft Registration Cards, 1942
about Michael Basile

That could be Benajmino on the ship manifest. His date of birth is around 1864. But thats all I know

In the 1920 census that could be correct also. Josephine and Benjamin had children names Ben, Rose, Charles and Joseph as far as I know. And they did live in Jersey City

It would make sense if she was widowed and living with Rose. Rose was there only daughter.Although that means Ben died at only 56.

Ill take a look at these records. You really are amazing at finding this stuff at. I wish I were that good! Its the mispellings that get me every time.

in 1910 census the children are:

1910 United States Federal Census
about Benjamin Passaro
Name: Benjamin Passaro
Age in 1910: 46
Estimated birth year: abt 1864
Birthplace: Italy
Relation to Head of House: Head
Father's Birth Place: Italy
Mother's Birth Place: Italy
Spouse's name: Josephine
Home in 1910: Jersey City Ward 5, Hudson, New Jersey
Marital Status: Married
Race: White
Gender: Male
Year of Immigration: 1890
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Benjamin Passaro 46
Josephine Passaro 35
Rose Passaro 16
Charles Passaro 5
Antonio Passaro 3
Joseph Passaro 2

+ Bennie born around 1912;

so the children are: Rose, Charles, Antonio, Joseph, Ben..... total: 5
it is right?

Hello all!
Great finds suanj :D
Here's your 1910 census image for reference
Based on the gap in children's ages, don't you suppose that daughter Rose/a was born in Italy?
(although the census says New Jersey, immig 1904 on 1920 census)
Alicia, perhaps if you order her SS Application it will have the town in Italy

Yes thats right. Thats all 5 children. My only concern is the date of there arrival and birthdates for Benjamin and Josephine are off a little from one document to the next. So how do I find out when they came over and what ship. I think the one you listed for Benjamino is right but I cant find Josephine. What I want to know is where Josephine is from in Italy. Do you think she would be listed with her married name or maiden name?

Hi Valarie; Rose was born in NJ sure; the problem is that I cannot find the ship's manifest of Giuseppina( or Giuseppa) Cimarelli ( maybe Cimorelli) and the 1900 census...
they was in NJ, but nothing came up... also 1930 census for Josephine Passaro is off... I cannot find it!

needing of to find the 1900 census; so we can know more abt the birthyear as a well also the birth month...
they married in NJ; so I think, so Josephine travelled under birth surname..
Benjamin was naturalized ( by 1910 census); you found the naturalization papers?

I looked at the 30 census. That is Josehine but it says she was born around 1870 and came here in 1895, not 1904. Rose is on the same census and confirms she was born in italy 1894 and came here in 1895.

Alicia, sometimes census records are only reliable for placing folks at a certain address on a certain date (and even then there are errors)
The information is only as accurate as the person's knowldege of the facts or memory that answered the questions. In some cases it could have been a child or a neighbor.
Also the person may have had trouble making themselves understood.
Original records are always best - census records are great for clues on where to find other, more reliable records.

Thats what amazes me. In all of family research I found most relatives didnt speak or write english. So how do they answer these questions? I have a grandfather Ive been searching for, for naturalization records yet havent found anything. He would be my link to dual citizenship. But yet on his census, him and my grandmother didnt speak english but it was marked they were naturalized. How do they come to that conclusion when they cant answer?

Anyway back to the subject. The last name cimarelli has to be the hardest name I researched yet because they have a zillion spellings. Benjamino and Jospehine must have come over with Rose at only a year, yet I find nothing. Very frustrating!

Alicia on the censuses this are normal errors... the more affordable is the first census just after the immigration of immigrants... after the memory vanishing...
