Hi, my girlfriend is trying to find information about her family heritage.
She has sourced information up the family tree till the point when her family arrives in Brazil in May 1887, but would like to continue the search regarding the family in Italy.
She knows the following information:
Her great, great grandfathers name was 'Pietro Sacilotto' and arrived in Brazil on 13/5/1887.
He was accompanied by his wife 'Tereza Tesolin', and sons 'Antonio', 'Giuseppe', 'Valentino'.
The trail stops there, and we're lost with where to start to look from the italian side of things - We believe they come from the Veneto / Friuli venezia giulia regions, but not really sure.
Any assistance you can give us would be appreciated...
Looking for Sacilotto Family ITL -> BRAZIL information
Re: Looking for Sacilotto Family ITL -> BRAZIL informatio
Additionally, We've recently found out that Pietro Sacilotto was 41 when he arrived in Brazil, so he would have been born in 1846/47.
I know it's a long way back, but if anyone has any hints on how we can start searching in Italy for Birth Certificates etc. It would be a great help.

If you go to www.gens.labo.net/en/cognomi and put in Sacilotto inupper left and click arrow you will find 118 cities, towns and villlages mostly inthe NE part of Italy inthe Friuli Vednezia Giulia are and spread out toward lombardia and piemonte and further south. Perhaps this will help locate the place of origin for the family which is essential inorder to locate recordsinItaly.
Now if family oral history identifies the province they came from or even the region, perhaps we can zero in on a military record for 1887 or thereabouts when he was 20 years of age. Go back and rummage the family cigar boxes and find an old foto post card and see if has a post mark of a soldier in uniform which he sent home as was the custom then. =Peter=-

Peter,
Great! Thanks, definitely this will be a help in locating the region they came from.
We also know that Tereza Tesolin was 38, and the sons, Valentino - 16, Antonio - 13, and Giuseppe - 7.
I don't think we will locate military records in the family, she has rang most of her fathers cousins / uncle's / aunts and no one has any knowledge.
We know that Pietro was listed as a 'worker' under his profession.
