What sort of information?

According to the Italian telephone directory, there are two Dacomo's currently listed in Bee. Since they are almost certainly related to you, you may wish to try writing a letter of introduction and ask if they can assist in your research.

Hi,

Thank you very much for the information, i'll will write to them and see what comes out. I really search for any information someone might have about the Dacomo family. I do not know the birth date of my great great grandfather Giovanni Dacomo. Would it be worth writing to the local autorities in Bee or is there a better way to go about it. All i know is that Bee is only a small village.

You can use the form letter generator at this site or the forms which are found here.. Either way, instead of entering an exact date, put "circa 1852" for example.

You can address your letters to:

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Bee
Piazza Barozzi 1
28813 BEE (VB)
ITALY

There is also a web site, http://www.comune.bee.vb.it/. You could try sending an email; some comuni respond to emails quickly, others never seem to bother. :)

The clerks usually give a decade to a search for a document so an approximate date is fine.

If one's ancestors left Italy after about 1880 and their last place of residence is known, it is recommended that you write to the UFFICIO ANAGRAFE (Registry Office) there and request a Certificato di Stato di Famiglia (family certificate showing the date and place of birth of each family member) in tghe head of family name. =Peter=

First of all i would like to thank you all for your help which has been great. In the meantime i found out that my ancestors left Bee, Novara, Italy and went first to France and from there to Switzerland. I had a busy weekend writing letters and e-mails to Italy and France.

To do genealogical research in Switzerland is rather more difficult, because the government introduced in 2004 a new privacy law, prohibiting the release of official data (records) to the public for genealogical research, putting a 120 years waiting period on it (god knows why). However there is the possibility to apply for a permit which may grant you some rights to do family research. There is a fee of about US100.- to pay. If anyone requires further information please let me know. I have now applied for this permit. Now all i have to do is wait and have a cup of tea.

Kind Regards from Switzerland. :D
