Are there any sites on the internet that specialize in analyzing photographs of ancestors/ Anything that could reveal something about the ancestors that documents don't suggest. Also, you hear so much or arrival at Ellis isLand. Did any Italian actually arrive on the coast of Virginia?

The rootschat forums have a photographic restoration and dating section.
I had a photo of ancestors correctly dated as being taken in 1890 based on the clothes worn in the picture .
I then realised this was a true estimate as one of the subjects was pictured without a ring on her hand and i knew she married in 1891

Hope this helps
if yer no fast yer last !!!

Students in US schools are taught about the amazing history of Ellis Island immigration to the extent that many students end up believing that all immigrants arrived through that port of entry.

In fact, this is simply not true. prior to the opening of Ellis Island in 1892, Italians entering the US through New York used the Castle Garden Immigration Depot in lower Manhattan. More importantly, Italians by the thousands also entered through Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, New Orleans, Galveston, and San Francisco. Many others entered North America through ports in Canada and then crossed into the US at one of the many border crossings.
