Address for archivist of City of Reggio Calabria

Postby Obelix » 19 Jan 2010, 16:24

I have a grandmother born in Reggio Calabria in 1867. I want to write to the Comune to see if I can obtain a copy of her birth certificate in the hope that it will provide details of her parents, suburb or area of birth, etc.

I have tried to search the Italian White pages but they give so many different addresses for the Comune that I don't know which one to write to. The Comune website provides a number of email addresses but none are functioning (the messages bounce back), and, would you believe, no actual address!

Does anyone have a correct address? Am I even on the right track in attempting this? Her name was very common, Maria Genovese, and she left Italy for Egypt with her mother when she was 4 years old.

Advice would be much appreciated.

I have sufficient fluency in Italian (with my wife's assistance!) to write a reasonably intelligible letter.

Sorry, that year should read 1887, not 1867.

Hi daddymuzza

I accessed the site you suggested above but it appears to be for Cosenza not Reggio di Calabria, and not one Genovese came up. I would have thought there would have been at least one in Cosenza. What am I doing wrong?

I am not sure why Peter directed you to the archives of Cosenza, however I do agree that putting the name "genovese" in the Cognome/Last Name field and then clicking the Search button does indeed turn up 609 results.

You can't actually see any of the results unless you create a (free) account and log in, by the way.
