Vincenzo Romito and Anastatia Donnarumma

Postby sazzlynn » 30 Jan 2010, 00:48

I am helping a friend with his family history and need help locating immigration records. We would like to identify where in Italy this family originated to research records there.
This is the information I have so far:
Vincenzo Antony Romito (James/Jimmy), born 14 Feb 1887 in Italy, married Philomena Lorello 23 Aug 1913 in Portland, Cumberland, Maine, died 15 Jan 1953 in Los Angeles, CA.

His parents are:
Vincenzo Anthony Romito, born 1855, Italy and died 17 Feb 1913, Portland, Maine
Anastatia Donnarumma, born 1855, Italy and died 20 Jan 1905, Portland, Maine.

I have the burial record for the parents and a sister Francis (Franseca), died 1905 at age 15,
at Calvary Cemetery in Portland, ME.
I have been unable to locate this family on the census or passenger list. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Manifest for Fiorenzo Romito (poor transcription)

1892 SS Trinacria sailing from Naples, arriving NY July 30.

Line 135
Vincenzo Romito, 37, carpenter from Vico Equense (this is a coastal town and comune in the province of Naples)

These early manifests don't provide much information...

Nice going mj :D

I guess the oldest child Andrea died. On the 1900 Census it is noted that they had 4 children but 3 are living. Pasquale was born in Maine.

Thanks so much! I knew you guys could help. This is more information than I have been able to find. Next we'll check for microfilm records of Vico Equense.

The bad news is the FHC has microfilmed records of Vico Equense beginning in 1901. Too late to help with this family as they immigrated in 1891-1894.

I've found a WWI Draft Registration record for Patrick Fred Romito, age 21, lives 114 Pearl St, Portland Me. This could be the younger brother Pasquale. Patrick Romito also died in Los Angeles, CA. Still looking for the 1920 and 1930 census for possible confirmation. Older brother, Vincenzo Romito had married Philomena in 1913 but don't know when the family moved to California.
