Yea he emigrated to the USA. He died in cleveland in 1934. One of his daughters Angela was born in Kentucky in 1900. I am trying to figure out where in Italy he is from....I have no idea and none of my relatives know anything.

I visited your tree on Ancestry and saw that you did not have a maiden name for Joseph's wife.

Did you find the info you needed? I suspect that your relative Joseph Del Monaco came from Ateleta as that was a reasonably common name there. If you look at the 1900 census sheet for him, most of the other names on his sheet are also common Ateleta names: Zappa, Ranallo, Le Donne, Mannella (They just all happen to be misspelled on the census sheet).

I have a relative from Ateleta (Guistino Donatelli) who was in Kentucky for a short period in the 1890s. I would like to learn what brought the men from Ateleta to Kentucky. Yes, they were stone cutters but why Kentucky? Most went to PA or Wisconsin.

If you have any insight into this, I'd love to learn.
Thanks.

Hi and welcome!

It would seem that the expansion of the railroad and a coal mining boom brought many immigrants to Kentucky, including the Italians. Here is an interesting little piece on Italian Stonemasonry in Kentucky. (Built to Last story)

Thank you for this piece. It was very interesting. I'd never heard about it before.
