Pulling my hair out!

Postby cubsy2 » 06 Feb 2010, 23:26

I need some help and I don't know what else to do.

I am looking for my Great Grandmother's surname. This is what I know:

Her name was Arcangela/Angelina. Born between1877-1879. She married Pasquale Zizza in about 1894 - 1895 in Italy. Their first daughter was Maria Concetta (born in Italy). I am not sure if they came over together as I cannot find them on passenger lists. (They settled in Boston area-Revere MA, so i don;t know if they came thru NY or BOS nor do i know the town they emmigrated from)

(Cenus info kinda blurry in some spots including year of emmigrating)

I do find 1910,1920,1930 census in Revere, MA. for them and their subsequent children (including of course my grandmother).

I have a few different documents that lists Arcangela's maiden name. However, because they were illiterate upon arrival, i am not convinced these surnames are valid: Panechella, Panecchiello. (these surnames or variants of true surname came from my grandparent' s marriage license & certificate and my grandmother's birth certificate.)

They are listed as AL on all the census'.....(aliens, not naturalized)

I don't have a birthdate for Arcangela....i have one for Pasquale 15 Nov 1873...I was always led to believe that if i follow the male ancestor the female info will follow...

The next documents i hope to obtain are death certs for Arcangela and Pasquale....

was wondering if anyone had any other ways of helping me figure this out.

thanks! Lisa

Do you know where they married (which comune) or where Pasquale was born? If so, just write to either comune (or both) and request Pasquale's birth and marriage certificates. Both should show his wife's full maiden name and place of birth.

These documents are nearly always free of charge; some comuni respond to requests within a few weeks, others may take substantially longer.

I have no clue where Pasquale came from....all documents i have thus far just say "Italy"....perhaps info will be on the death certs....

I have visited via Google Earth the town my grandfather (Luigi Guarino) came from....Mirabella Eclano.......It's a cute town...Google Earth visitations are the next best thing to going there!

thanks for your input...as soon as i can find out the town origin i will write them to get info....

Here is a possible manifest for Pasquale, but I can't pull it up on Ellis Island. :( Perhaps someone else can try on Ancestry.

The Ellis Island one may be a record of interest because on one of the census' it looks like it says 1897 for year of emmigration.....

but i think i have looked at that one already, but discarded it as an option.
